The holistic benefits of Positive Education for the whole school community since its incorporation into the school curriculum at Geelong Grammar has led to an increasing number of schools in Australia, New Zealand and the US incorporating Positive Education into their curriculums too.

But what is Positive Education?

In 2011, Geelong Grammar’s definition was:

“It brings together the science of psychology and the best teaching and learning practices to enhance wellbeing and support flourishing lives.”

But John Hendry, OAM’s recent definition is:

“Positive Education is about enabling all to maximise contribution to self and others through compassion.”

Using tools developed from Positive Education and with reference to a Relationship Quotient Paper John co-authored with Neil Hawkes, Values-Based Education and Andrew Fuller, Resilient Youth Australia, Centillion Consulting’s goal is to partner with schools to reintroduce the concept of relationship based education to them.

Relationship based Education (RbE) looks to create environments where Resilient Cultures and Resilient Mindsets can be established, setting the foundations for improved and better performance by children and staff.

RbE’s focus on imparting skills to form and maintain relationships results in better and stronger relationships being built, enhancing wellbeing and flourishing for all.
